Careers
For people who like the material more than the format.
We are a small London company, so roles are broad by necessity. An editor here will be asked how a record should be structured. An engineer will be asked whether a chapter's claim is supportable. If that sounds like interference, this is the wrong place.
London roles
Employed positions in Covent Garden, London. Hybrid, two days a week in the office. Fully remote roles are listed below.
Commissioning Editor, Reference
Own a list of reference and practitioner titles from proposal to press, working with the research team on how each subject is structured before writing starts.
Research Analyst
Build and verify reference datasets: register and archive work, entity matching, second-source checks, and writing the documentation that ships with a licence.
Full-stack Engineer, Portals
Build and run the portals: search and faceting, editorial workflow, subscriber access, and the APIs that serve licensed data to clients.
Fully remote roles
These roles make up the specialist bench around the London team: regional reach, language coverage and per-title production capacity that a small in-house group cannot hold on its own. The work runs on written handovers rather than presence, so we hire for it without regard to location. Engaged as a contractor in your own jurisdiction, paid in GBP, USD or EUR, with a four-hour overlap with London as the only scheduling requirement.
Data Curator
Take a defined slice of a reference dataset and keep it correct: source checks against public registers and archives, entity matching, and changelog notes that a licensing client can read.
Regional Researcher
Cover a country or language we cannot reach from London: local registers, official gazettes, trade bodies and archives. You know where the authoritative record lives and what it costs to get at it.
Backend Engineer, Data Delivery
Own the pipelines behind the licensed feeds: ingest and validation, scheduled CSV and JSON drops, the REST API, and the monitoring that tells a client why a release slipped.
Ebook Production Specialist
Turn typeset reference titles into EPUB that passes retailer validation and reads properly with a screen reader: semantic markup, complex tables, footnotes and indexes.
Indexer and Metadata Editor
Build the index that becomes the portal's taxonomy, and the ONIX, BIC and Thema records that decide whether a title is findable at all.
Translator, Reference Titles
Translate reference and practitioner material into or out of English, keeping terminology consistent with the record set rather than paraphrasing it.
Copy-editors and proofreaders
Ongoing pool work on reference and professional titles. Send a rate card, your specialisms and two recent credits.
Terms for London roles
We would rather publish these than have you ask three interviews in.
Remote roles are contractor engagements, so hours, leave and pension are yours to arrange. Rates, notice and the credit line are agreed in writing before the first piece of work.
How to apply
Email a CV and a short note — a few paragraphs, not a formal cover letter — saying which role and what you have worked on that is closest to it. No portfolio site required. For the remote and pool roles, add a rate card and your time zone.
If none of the roles fit but you think you should be here, write anyway and say what you would do.
