Line one of three
Book publishing, with the database built first.
We publish non-fiction and reference titles. The difference is the order of work: we structure the material as records before anyone writes a chapter, so the finished book has a second and third life waiting for it.
What we handle
Commissioning and editorial
Proposal assessment, structural edit, line edit, copy-edit and proofreading, with a named editor from first read to press.
Design and typesetting
Interior layout, tables and figures, index, cover and jacket design, and press-ready files checked against the printer's specification.
Production
Litho and digital print management, paper and binding selection, proofing, and EPUB production that passes retailer validation.
Registration and metadata
ISBN assignment, ONIX records, BIC and Thema subject coding, and legal deposit with the six UK legal deposit libraries.
Distribution
Trade and library supply, wholesaler listings, ebook retail channels, print on demand for the long tail, and royalty reporting.
Rights
Contracts written in plain terms, permissions clearance for quoted and illustrated material, and territory and translation rights handled separately from digital rights.
The schedule
Typical for a 300-page reference title delivered as a complete manuscript. Dates are fixed at contract and we report against them monthly.
What you keep
Copyright in the text stays with the author. The structured record set stays with whoever commissioned it. We take a defined licence to publish, for a defined term and territory, and nothing beyond it.
